Leashed Tracking Dog Bill Status

On May 19, 2010 House Bill 2526 was introduced by State Representative Jeffery Pyle and sent to the House Game and Fisheries committee. At this time the Pennsylvania Game Commission does not support this bill and without their support, the bill has little chance of becoming a law. DRP asks at this time for you to contact the Pennsylvania Game Commissioners and request them to support HB 2526 to allow the use of leashed blood tracking dogs for the recovery of wounded Big Game. You can contact the Commissioners at pgccomments@state.pa.us and put "To all Commissioners : blood tracking dogs" in the subject.

On June 29th, 2010 at their Quarterly meeting, the Pennsylvania Game Commissioners approved a resolution to publicly support House Bill 2526 that would amend the Game and Wildlife Code (Title 34) to legalize the use of blood-tracking dogs to recover lawfully harvested or lawfully wounded white-tailed deer. This is a big step forward towards legalization. Now that the Game Commission is on board the next step is to get things rolling in the Game and Fisheries Committee. To help things keep moving forward you need to do two things:

  1. Call, email and/or write to Representative Ed Staback and ask him to bring the bill up for discussion in the House Game and Fisheries Committee. Rep. Staback is the Chairman of the Committee and the bill has no chance of moving forward unless he decides to put it on the agenda for discussion.

  2. Contact your own local State Representative and ask him to support the bill and do whatever he can to help move it forward.
